Introduction to Magazine cover

 

1) List the three most important magazine cover conventions in your opinion and explain why for each one.

I think the sans and serif.The reason why I do think that the sans and serif is one of the most important magazine cover conventions is because of the quality of the writing (title) on the magazine.Because for sans it is just in capital letters that just curves in the sides which means it is not that good.But for serif it shows that it is better because at the end of almost every letter there is like a horizontal line sticking out of the edge of the letters which means it is more expensive than the rest.Another important magazine cover convention is the way they represent the title.The reason why I say title is because if the title sound's good and catchy people would buy it to read what it is about.Lastly,I think which is the most important magazine cover conventions is the central image.The reason why i said central image is because if you are buying a magazine about celebrities and you see some interesting faces in front of the magazine you will buy it.

Now study this cover of Closer magazine:

2) Identify as many of the magazine cover conventions as you can and write a list of where they appear on this cover of Closer. As an extension, you could also write about the preferred reading for the convention - what the magazine is trying to communicate to the audience.

Title:It appears at the top because so it's title can stand out when it is placed .

Central image:It shows quite a numerous amount of celebrities because they want to show the audience that look this person is on this magazine it is bound to be good because the celebrity has been in other TV shows.

Flash:It shows some quotes made by celebrities so that when people read the magazine they would understand what the celebrity means.E.g 'POSH'S BABY SHOCK'.

Colour scheme:In the magazine there is only a variety of colours because it wants to stand out and make it look good when people buy it because if there was too many colours on the magazine it would not look good.

Language:The language at the front of the magazine is all in short sentences because they don't want to give that much information away because when you do buy the magazine you will understand what is meant.
