OSP & Videogames: An introduction

Watch the YouTube video outlining the history of the videogames industry from the 1970s to the 2010s. Now answer the following questions:

1) What were the first videogames like?
The first video games were born upon mighty post-war mainframes which was designed for rapid code breaking. For example, the 1958's Tennis For Two which was a simple two-player Tennis simulation built for an analogue machine.

2) How have videogames changed over time?
Video games have changed over time because since the 70's teenagers had to go to arcade stores to play games by putting money into them. Now in the 21 century, teenagers can now stay at home with there own luxuries and play video games by just putting a disc into there console and start playing instead of putting coins into a machine and playing.

3) What do the most successful games have in common? Answer this in as much detail as you can. Think about audience pleasures - what do people like about playing videogames?#
The successful things that games have in common is that teenagers could play as one person in games instead of playing as multiple characters. Further more, video games started to get more successful because of there being narratives in games such as Super Mario Bros. Also video games were getting more successful because of the industries who made there own games making sequels to them.

4) What criticisms have been made towards videogames?
Video games have been criticised because of the games that America have produced over time. This is because of the game's narrative being confusing and too hard to follow. This is when China got involved and created the first ever Super Mario game which made America lose money because of the consumer's playing Super Mario because of the game play being more easy to follow and narrative.

  1. Hi Muhammed. Your blog is, as always, looking impressively up to date and detailed. You are showing signs of not rushing and taking your time to make sure your spelling and grammar is improving. This is good - and you are adding more detail too from the specific CSPs which has been a weakness before. However, make sure you use that level of detail for every answer - for example. question 3 you mention that 'the industries' but you need to give some specific names. For number 4, you have been TOO specific, talking about Super Mario. I was thinking more about why people say that videogames are potentially damaging - think about things like why they might distract you from school or encourage violence and being anti-social.
